This Tabriz rug is a truly exceptional piece. With a knot count well above half a million it is the finest quality item we are currently stocking at Rugspa.ie. Because of this knot density the detail on the surface of this rug is incredibly sharp and crisp. In the centre of the Tabriz’ main field lies an ornate medallion. Rug medallions are typically modelled after the geometric patterning found on the ceiling of mosques, and this is a beautiful example. Each iteration of the medallion is framed with a fine white silk highlight, which further sharpens the geometric patterning and results in a fine crisp central feature.
Outside of the principal medallion a delicate, symmetrical swirl of floral motifs decorate the cream main field. Thin midnight blue stalks stitch each flower bud and leaf together in an intricate tapestry of foliage that is extremely attractive to the eye. Several flowers are accented with silk, sometimes red, sometimes blue, sometimes white. This rug is simply beautiful. The oval cream field gives way to blood red and pink corner frames, which again house the beautifully delicate and ornate floral motif that dominate the centre of the piece. After which three concentric framing bands complete the item, both pink and sky blue. The bold warm creams and red colour scheme of this Tabriz rug makes it a perfect addition to a cosy, homely space. The smaller size of the piece would allow this rug to sit comfortably in a bedroom or study.
The city of Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important rug trading centres throughout all of Iran. Centuries of rug manufacture and trading have taken place there which, in turn, has drawn some of the country’s greatest rug weavers to the area. And our Tabriz has been made by a master weaver without a doubt. The exceptional quality of materials, high knot count and overall composition belongs only to the highest classes. This Tabriz has been previously marketed as a collector’s item.
