Silk Rug Cleaning by Dublin’s Fine Material Specialists

We clean all types of silk rugs from our Dublin-based facility in Rathcoole

Silk rugs are amongst the finest of rugs. They are beautiful, ornate and often demand high prices. It is not uncommon to see a high-value silk rug being sold for tens of thousands of euros. Cleaning a delicate or high-value rug requires the utmost care and attention. Even though silk fibres are strong, they can be easily damaged when using incorrect cleaning techniques or products. One of the biggest problems when cleaning a silk rug is not the strength of its fibre, but rather the dye. Incorrect cleaning could cause the dye to bleed, forever ruining the artwork and ultimately lowering the rug’s value.

We are masters at cleaning silk rugs and understand that an in-depth pre-inspection (such as dye and fabric testing) is required. Understanding various aspects of your silk rug ensures that a proper cleaning regime is established before even attempting a clean.

What Makes RugSpa Dublin’s Premium Silk Rug Cleaning Facility?

Expertise, years of experience and specialised rug cleaning equipment and products. Our fine material specialists have been internationally trained and understand how fibres, stains, dirt and cleaning products work right down to a molecular level. With a degree in fine art and history, our specialists understand the background of a silken rug, regardless of its age, and the different weaving techniques that are employed across various regions.

We Understand Silk’s Chemistry

Understanding a silken rug’s chemistry ensures the best possible results without causing damage or dye bleed. For example, our experts know that silk is made from a natural protein fibre which is best kept at neutral pH level. Using neutral pH cleaning products ensures that no dye bleed occurs during the cleaning process. Furthermore, some silken rugs are often coloured using unstable natural dyes. Understanding how to clean a silk rug without destabilising the chemistry of a natural dye helps prevent catastrophic dye bleed.

We Understand Dry Dirt and Dust

Did you know that around 85%-95% of the soiling in your silken rug is made up from dry dirt and dust? It is imperative to first remove all the dry dirt before moving on to a low-moisture clean. An all too often neglected step, removing dry dirt and dust ensures that no muddy liquid is brought up to the surface during the wet clean phase. It helps future proof the silken fabrics from breaking apart or splaying. If dry dirt is not removed, then the mechanical action of walking on a rug causes the dry particles to abrade the fibre. This may drastically distort the dimensions of a silken rug, forever decreasing its value.

We Can Remove 99% of Stains and Spots from Silk

Spots and stains are unsightly on any silk rug and a general clean may not be enough to remove them. Each spot and stain are different and how they react with your silken rug depends on the stain – some stains stick more readily than others when exposed to a proteinaceous fibre. Our fine material specialists will examine every inch of your rug, mapping out and identifying each stain. By identifying stains, we can choose the correct course of action to remove and remedy the affected areas with a success rate of 99%.
